What is Live Edge Wood?

So what is live edge anyway? “Live Edge or “Natural Edge” is the result of how the tree grew naturally and created it’s shape along the way. When a log is cut into slabs the wood is cut lengthwise revealing the wood in it’s natural form. The slabs of wood will retain it’s unique shape as nature intended. Many slabs still have bark on the edges of the wood.

The popularity of the “live edge” style has been fueled by artists, designers and woodworkers. The beginnings of the style can be traced back to Japanese designer George Nakashima. The influence of the Nakashima style, which began in the 1940s, can now be seen around the globe.

A little closer to home you can see beautiful “Live Edge” wood in our warehouse right here in Jacksonville Florida.
